Guy Fieri Hate

I’ve never really understood all the hate for Guy Fieri. I enjoy Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives as much as the next guy. However, this article in the New York Observer by Joshua David Stein takes it to a whole other level. At some point this essay started feeling a bit preposterous. Maybe it is when he starts relating Fieri’s restaurant to gun control. Either way, it is written really well…
It would be disingenuous to claim that Times Square represents anything but a regurgitation of the American dream, monetized, metastasized, made blindingly bright by light-emitting diodes and shoved back down the gullets of those souls unlucky enough to have mistakenly stumbled into the red zone, or worse, like moths to the incinerating flame, have actively sought it out. To deride Mr. Fieri for opening his restaurant there as if he’d taken a dump in the Louvre is silly…

The Raid is an Indonesian film, and the version I got was dubbed. This threw me at first, but eventually I got used to it. Sometimes they used really goofy english voices for the characters which felt really out of place when compared to the brutal fight sequences. By the end of the film I barely noticed the dubbing. In general I would rather read subtitles, but with this film I was glad I could sit back and enjoy the action without having to read the screen.

I felt like writing, but there hasn't been anything on its own that seems worthy of writing about. Here is a rundown of a few of the things I've been taking in...

Kindle Paperwhite

Even though I already have far too many gadgets I wouldn't mind adding the new Kindle Paperwhite to my collection. I enjoy reading on the e-ink screen Kindle quite a bit, but you need good lighting. I spend all my time in doors with the curtains closed so that is hard to come by. The Paperwhite is here to save the day.
